Region Map Generator

This is a tool to make region map with self-definition color. The original maps in the software are blank political region ones for different countries or areas. Each region can be colored by choice or based on data values.

Pros: This is an application that lets a blank map to be colored based different kinds of data automatically. One specifies a minimum value color, one for maximum value and a gradient for changing the color based on minimum change in data. Additional meanings of the data jumps out of the map because of the visual association one is able to make. For example a set of table of data of a particular product may not make as much sense as a locality in the map showing poor sales or exceptional sales. Besides the spatial meanings coming out of the data one can look at the temporal dimension too by looking at maps with data at different time. The data to be analyzed could be as varied as the sales data discussed, habitat of wild animals or even crop patterns. Thus this can be an effective teaching tool, business charts, web picture and so on.

The original maps in the software are blank political region ones for different countries or areas. Current version has maps for the countries Australia, Austria, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, United Kingdom and United States. Besides the coloring based on data already discussed the application let every region to be colored individually as the user chooses to. The output is produced as a BMP image. User can select the size over a large range from a size of 500x350 pixels to 2000x1400 pixels. The user interface is simple enough, easy to learn and use. One can save a set of option to be reused again later.

Cons: Labeling of regions or adding notes should have been possible, that adds a lot of value. Data fields are closely spaced so that maps of regions that have longish region names, the name labels get cut off.
